Popular gimbal stabilizer maker Zhiyun Tech just announced a new Zhiyun CRANE 3S gimbal stabilizer with increased payload of 6.5kgs. Crane 3S has super powerful motors, features a modular design, and a wireless image transmission system.
Modern video productions now demand the use of variety of cameras and accessories in complicated shooting environments.
Engineers at Zhiyun Tech have revamped CRANE 3S with new and more powerful motors which allow it to handle a 6.5kg payload for more ambitious camera setups. Such camera setups include Canon EOS 1DX III, BMPCC 4K and 6K, and Canon C200 and C300 Mark II. Sony cameras like the Sony FS5/FS7 and Sony FX9 are also supported.
The CRANE 3S is also said to be able to handle RED cameras, and it will be interesting to see this gimbal used with the upcoming/yet-to-be-released RED Komodo.
Cinematographers looking to use cameras for more cine-setups should check out the Zhiyun Crane 3S Pro configuration.
Furthermore, the upcoming RED Komodo is set to be the lightest and smallest camera RED’s made to date. Read more about the Komodo here.
Modular Design for More Flexibility
The new gimbal features a modular design in the motor axis and handles. For larger cinema camera combos, gimbal operators can attach the included extension module onto the roll axis. Meanwhile, those using more compact, DSLR/mirrorless combos, can use the CRANE 3S without the extension module for a more compact setup.
The previous Crane 3 LAB and Weebill-S gimbal created a new way of holding a gimbal in underslung mode with the second handle.
Therefore, the Crane 3S rethinks the structure and introduces a detachable second handle with two options: the EasySling Handle and the SmartSling Handle.
Users have the option of either mount EasySling handle to extend the grip for more comfort upright & under-slung operation. Or they can mount SmartSling handle featuring an intuitive control panel and OLED screen, for direct camera & gimbal parameter adjustment, or combine them together.
This particular modular design makes the new CRANE 3S highly compatible with motorized dollies, jibs, cable cams, Easyrigs and other additional equipment.
Versatile Power for a Full Production Day
In the power department, Zhiyun CRANE 3S uses 3 x 18650-format batteries allowing it to run for up to 12 hours. A DC-in power port on the battery compartment allows input of up to 25.2-volts for direct charging.
Also, another new addition in the CRANE 3S ecosystem is the Zhiyun TransMount PowerPlus Battery Pack, a compact yet fast-charging power bank for the gimbal and camera. 6 x 18650 batteries independently provide 18 hours of runtime for the gimbal.
A new algorithm enables phenomenally responsive speed and smoothness. In fast action shooting, the CRANE 3S can resist high winds. The 55° tilted roll axis is designed for an unrestricted view and allows enough space to mount large cinema camera combos.
Image Transmission Module
Zhiyun’s TransMount Image Transmission Module is compatible with the CRANE 3S. Therefore it comes with a transmitter, which allows users to stream video to up to three monitoring devices including smartphones.
ViaTouch 2.0 in the ZY Play app serves as a bridge between the Crane3S stabilizer, the camera and monitoring devices. Thus, it allows users to adjust camera and gimbal parameters remotely and intuitively.
