Zhiyun Tech, makers of popular handheld gimbals for hybrid cameras, launches the CRANE 2S gimbal stabilizer. Building on the popularity of the CRANE 2, the new Crane 2S brings more flexibility, a greater payload, an upgraded algorithm and many more improvements.

In addition, the company recently launched the much-beefier Zhiyun Crane 3S gimbal for heavier cinema camera payloads. You can read more about the Crane 3S gimbal in our previous post here.

Optimized for Latest Hybrid Cameras

Naturally, the new Crane 2S caters to video creators who frequently swap between different cameras to ensure they are using the optimal tools. Therefore, the new Crane 2S comes with “highly optimized motors”, for larger cameras such as the BMPCC 6K, Lumix S1H, and more. I am also sure that this new gimbal will be a great option for those who are waiting on the new Alpha 7S III.

The Crane 2S also comes with the latest 9th Gen Instune Algorithm for smooth, reliable performance and better axis response.

FlexMount System and Vertical Filming Made Easy

One of the new improvements in the Zhiyun CRANE 2S is the new FlexMount System which greatly simplifies the setup process while at the same time securing your valuable camera gear with a double safety mechanism. This prevents “axis wobble” during transport.

The new gimbal comes equipped with a Quick release mount along with a safety knob on tilt axis which allows users to instantly switch to shoot Vertical. This way you can capture content for social media much easier, without the need for 3rd party L-brackets.

In addition, the Crane 2S comes with a redesigned carbon-fibre housing the 3 x 18650 rechargeable Li-ion batteries

A Familiar, But Also Improved Design

Zhiyun didn’t stray too far away from the classic design of their popular CRANE 2, but made some needed improvements. These include a new 0.96-inch OLED screen makes it easier to navigate through the entire menu system and switch between modes in a pinch. All while the new, smaller and more ergonomic (and precise) focus knob makes it easier to grab focus (with compatible camera/lens combos).

Moreover, the new CRANE 2S comes loaded with multiple mounting points. And in addition, the Zhiyun TransMount Image transmitter can be mounted on the bottom of the quick release base without any screws, which can save you time.

Versatile Shooting Modes and Wireless Video

Furthermore, the new CRANE 2S comes packed with 6 creative gimbal modes including: Pan Follow, Locking, Follow, Full-Range POV, Vortex mode, and Go mode. In addition, users get the benefit of advanced cinematic effects such as Panorama, Timelapse, Motionlapse, and Long Exposure Timelapse.

For sending a wireless video signal to a monitor or smartphone/tablet the Zhiyun TransMount ecosystem offers plenty of versatility.

The CRANE 2S uses three removable 18650 Li-ion batteries, which should last you for a full production day (12-hour runtime) according to Zhiyun Tech.
