Z-CAM brings ProRes 422 recording options via firmware update v0.98.0 to the E2 F6, E2-S6, F8 and even the E2-M4 MFT camera. If you own a Z CAM E2 camera you can now record in ProRes 422 in 1080p, 4K, 5K, and even 6K internally to a CFast 2.0 card.
This update comes in addition to the ProRes RAW update for the Z CAM E2 F6, F8 and S6, which requires an Atomos recorder.
Needless to say that firmware 0.98.0 is an impressive update, which gives more flexibility to creators in post.
Z-CAM E2 Cameras Now Record 10bit ProRes 422 in 4K, 5K, and 6K
The Z CAM E2 ecosystem has been growing in popularity and also in features, with every new firmware update. And even though they have a long way to go yet in improving reliability when it comes to recoding, my guess is that it won’t be long before seeing Z CAM’s on larger productions mixed with cameras from other more established brands such as RED and Sony for example.
In addition, the latest firmware also adds a 5K/60p ProRes 422 recording option to the Z CAM E2 F6 full-frame camera.
ProRes 422 (in a HQ as well as LT flavours) is the de-factor universal 10bit codec for professional video work. By having it as a recording option in the Z CAM E2 cameras, not just as a proxy, this update elevates the Z CAM ecosystem, giving its users more opportunities to shoot more projects for broadcast for example.
