The mighty Voigtlander 60mm f0.95 Nokton for Micro Four Thirds is now shipping. The lens is priced at the hefty $1,049 USD at B&H, but for a max aperture of f0.95, you’d better be prepared to pay a premium.
And of course, Voigtlander is no stranger to super-fast glass. Moreover, the legendary optics maker Voigtlander also just recently announced the Voigtlander 35mm f1.2 Nokton for Sony FE.
In addition, the new medium telephoto lens has an equivalent 120mm focal length when compared to full-frame, thus giving photographers and video users a great portrait lens to work with. Furthermore, the Voigtlander 60mm f/0.95 is a really good options for Panasonic GH5s users, or BMPCC 4K shooters looking for a fast manual prime.
Solid Build Quality; Super-Fast Manual Prime Lens
On the focus side of things, this is a manual focus lens with a metal helicoid. And the nice part about it is that it can distinguish very sensitive focusing even when wide open.
The lens has a minimum focus distance of just 34cm and the maximum reproduction ratio is 1:4 (1:2 in full frame conversion.) Thus, it can also be used as a large aperture macro lens. Also, the 60mm f0.95 MFT lens comes with a lens shielding hood which blocks a high level of stray light.
As with all Voigtlander primes, this is a hefty lens – it tips the scales at nearly 900 grams (860g to be exact) and it is also manual focus only. However, the focus mechanism operates with a silky smooth feeling, something that Voigtlander lenses are famous for.
The MFT camera ecosystem benefits greatly from fast glass, and with a f/0.95 aperture, getting focus in video can be a challenge. But, at least you’ll get some delicious background bokeh out of it. Smooth aperture control is also available thanks to a de-click switch mechanism.
