Vazen has just introduced their new 65mm T/2.0 Anamorphic prime lens, completing their anamorphic trio for Micro Four Thirds. The new 65mm lens is currently available to pre-order for $3,250.

Existing Vazen 40mm and 28mm owners can get a $400 discount by ordering direct. You can find pre-order links at the bottom of this post.

In addition, Vazen already have two more anamorphic lenses in the range – a 40mm T2 and a 28mm T2 anamorphic. Some of you will also recall that Vazen also recently dropped their first full-frame Anamorphic lens – the Vazen 85mm T2.8 1.8x FF anamorphic.

Vazen’s third anamorphic prime for Micro Four Thirds

The Vazen anamorphic primes are quite unique as they have a 1.8x anamorphic squeeze ratio and have been specifically designed for MFT cameras with 4:3 sensors. Also, the VZ anamorphic lenses have the more desired front anamorphic design,  for that “cinematic” smooth oval bokeh, and blue horizontal flares.

And thanks to their 1.8x squeeze ratio, they produce a lovely 2.39:1 aspect ratio image after de-squeezing in post production.

Cameras such as the Panasonic GH5s and Z-cam E2 models (in addition to the latest Panasonic BGH1 box camera) can take advantage of a 4:3 aspect ratio capture due to their native sensor design.

Moreover, Blackmagic Pocket 4K users, in particular, are quite fond of the Vazen anamorphic lenses, as the BMPCC 4K has a 4:3 anamorphic mode that is perfect for the 28mm, 40mm, and now the new 65mm T2 Anamorphic lens from Vazen.

Furthermore, the new 65mm has a fast T/2 maximum aperture opening (just like the rest of the range) and about 1 meter minimum focus distance. Vazen also claims, their new lens has minimal focus breathing when changing focus.

Built Cinematic; Lightweight and Robust

At just over 1.6kgs, the new Vazen 65mm T2 is relatively compact and lightweight for its class. Designed with cinema-use oriented functionality, the lens has a 95mm front diameter for standard matte box.

In addition, as every cinematographer would expect, the lens has independent aperture and focus rings with 0.8mod cine gears. Furthermore, the focus throw is a very respectable 300 degrees.
