Tamron just announced the new 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III ultra-wide angle lens for Sony APS-C cameras and a 150-500mm telephoto for full-frame.
Dubbed Model B060, the new Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 is a fast-aperture ultra wide-angle zoom lens for Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras. Covering focal lengths from 11-20mm (equivalent to 16.5-30mm in full-frame format), this lens is the first ultra wide-angle lens for Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras in the world to achieve a maximum aperture of f2.8 and allows users to fully enjoy the soft bokeh effects, distinctive depth-of-field and unique perspective provided by a fast-aperture lens.
The lens was designed to be exceptionally compact and light weight, an ideal match with Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras.
Lightweight and Ultra-Wide
It has an overall length of 86.2mm (3.4 in), and weighs 335g (11.8 oz). Imagine a lens so small and light that it is hard to believe it is a full-fledged fast-aperture ultra wide-angle zoom.
Photographers can concentrate on shooting without worrying about bulk or weight when used with a compatible Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless camera.
The MOD (Minimum Object Distance) is just 0.15m (5.9 in) at the widest end. This extreme close-range shooting performance allows you to get as close to a subject as you like.
Made for Sony APS-C sensor cameras
The maximum magnification ratio is 1:4 (an astonishing feat for an ultra wide-angle lens) and it unlocks powerful wide-angle macro shooting utilizing the unique perspective that makes near objects look larger, and distant objects smaller.
Additionally, using the F2.8 maximum aperture produces a shallower depth-of-field that creates soft bokeh in the background, allowing users to take distinctive images with unique expressions.
Advanced Optical Formula for Impressive Image Quality
The new Tamron 11-20mm F2.8 is a high-resolution lens that focuses on superb image quality as a full-fledged fast-aperture ultra wide-angle zoom.
The optical construction includes 12 elements arranged in 10 groups. High resolution performance is maintained across the entire frame with the well-balanced arrangement of two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements.
In addition, two LD (Low Dispersion) and one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) lens elements are used to suppress the chromatic aberrations that tend to occur when shooting at the wide-open aperture of fast-aperture lenses.
These features combine to render clear, crisp images. In addition, the use of the lens correction features built into Sony cameras lets users harness extra lens performance gains.
Additionally, like most of the Tamron’s other lenses for Sony E-mount cameras, the filter size is unified at 67mm. In addition to allowing the shared use of Polarizers, ND and various other filters between lenses, the unified size is also highly convenient as it eliminates the hassle of finding the right lens cap when switching lenses.
High-Speed Motor and Highly Accurate Autofocus
The AF drive on the 11-20mm f/2.8 includes an RXD motor unit to help you stay focused on the action. RXD uses an actuator to precisely control the rotational angle of the motor, allowing it to directly drive the focusing lens without passing through a reduction gear.
A sensor that precisely detects the position of the lens enables high-speed and accurate AF, which is ideal when shooting continually moving subjects or recording video. And with a focusing system that is both smooth and quiet, the 11-20mm F2.8 lets photographers shoot free from stress not worrying the drive sound in a quiet environment.
Tamron 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD (Model A057)
Designed for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras, the new 150-500mm upends conventional wisdom for ultra-telephoto zoom lenses, with a very compact design and high image quality.
Furthermore, the new Tamron 150-500mm f/5-6.7 achieves a 500mm focal length while retaining a compact size, with a length of just 209.6mm (8.3 in) and a maximum diameter of 93mm, enabling comfortable handheld shooting.
Additionally, the lens’ optical construction features 25 elements in 16 groups and utilizes special lens elements and hybrid aspherical lens elements to control various potential aberrations such as chromatic aberrations.
Also, the lens is equipped with a high-speed, high-precision linear motor focus mechanism VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) and VC (Vibration Compensation), ensuring that no photogenic moment is ever missed.
Tripod Mount with Arca-Swiss
Additionally, the lens features a MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.6m (23.6 in) at the 150mm end and remarkable overall usability.
The Arca-Swiss compatible tripod mount has strap attachment holes and there are various features to support outdoor shooting, including Moisture-Resistant Construction and Fluorine Coating.
Pricing and Availability
The new Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 for Sony APS-C is priced at $829 USD, while the full-frame Tamron 150-500mm telephoto will set you back $1,399 USD.
