Sony’s latest Xperia Pro 5G device, targets video creators with a dedicated HDMI port allow for monitoring from Sony a7s III and others.
Needless to say, the Xperia Pro is pitched as the “world’s first smartphone with dedicated HDMI connectivity” giving users access to a live video feed from their camera. This functionality is reminiscent of the RED Hydrogen smart phone/media creation device, which unfortunately didn’t pan out and was eventually cancelled.
5G, HDMI, and Pro Features for Creators
Last year during the Xperia 1 II launch, Sony teased this upcoming Pro version, which has been in the making for quite some time.
In a nutshell, this Xperia PRO version supports 5G mmWave and 5G Sub-6 for high-speed data transfer, a more durable construction and a dedicated HDMI input.
Super-charging the same industry-leading imaging technology found in the Xperia 1 II flagship, the PRO device arrives as “a powerful tool for photography and video content creation.”
Sony Alpha Autofocus and 4K HDR OLED Display
Developed with Sony’s Alpha camera engineers, the Xperia PRO features high-end mirrorless camera features such as Real-time AF for both humans and animals.
In addition, the smart device comes loaded with a host of creative features such as Look Colour Management presets, and 4K HDR recording options including super slow-motion.
Furthermore, the 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display features a 21:9 CinemaWide aspect ratio and supports the BT.2020 color space.
Creator mode ports some high-end cinema camera technologies from the CineAlta division such as a specially calibrated D65 white point, referencing the color reproduction of Sony’s pro monitors.
Xperia PRO features ZEISS optics calibrated specifically with the ZEISS T* coating to reduce reflections. Also, the PRO incorporates a triple lens camera system with a 16mm ultra wide-angle lens, 24mm wide-angle and a 70mm telephoto.
Dedicated HDMI Input for monitoring
Xperia PRO’s unique HDMI input makes it possible for users to connect to any Alpha camera such as the Sony a7s III or other cameras with an HDMI interface. Thus users can use a 5G data link to live stream video in real-time.
3rd party live streaming apps allow the Xperia PRO to stream video content from your camera to an RTMP server or directly to popular social media platforms.
Also, the External Monitor feature gives users access to a screen lock function, screen brightness adjustment, zoom capabilities, adjustable grid lines and more.
Next Generation Connectivity
A 360-degree antenna design, covers all four sides of the device, producing the most effective way to capture high-band frequency 5G mmWave signals.
In addition, the low dielectric constant material used in the chassis enables radio waves to pass through more easily.
Furthermore, the Network Visualizer feature gives the user an easy-to-understand visualization of the signal direction, communication method speed. This helps camera operators on location locate the best spot for live transmissions.
A shortcut button on the side of the Xperia PRO can be assigned to launch a frequently used features including the Network Visualizer.
Rugged Build, Water and Dust Proof
The PRO carries a IP65/68 rating, which means it offers water and dust resistance. Moreover, the rugged build is complimented by Gorilla Glass 6 screen protection.
Long Lasting Battery
And last, but not least, the new Xperia Pro is powered via a 4,000 mAh battery, which is also compatible with an optional fast charger.
Innovative technologies such as Battery Care prevents the phone from overcharging. Additionally, the Xperia Adaptive Charging monitors the phone as it charges ensuring the battery is not too stressed.
