Sony will be making consumer drones oriented towards video creators under a new Airpeak brand. The company just announced the new project, which will specialise in making “drones in the field of AI robotics.”
Furthermore, Sony expects to launch Airpeak in Spring 2021.
Sony to challenge DJI dominance in consumer drones segment
According to a brief press release, Sony say, the company has assigned the “Airpeak” brand to reflect its aspiration to contribute to the further evolvement and the creation of the unprecedented value through its imaging and sensing technology as well as 3R technologies (Reality, Real-time and Remote) in the drone area.
Sony has also released a very short teaser, which doesn’t show much apart from (presumably) a few accents of the upcoming drone design:
Airpeak – Built for Video Creators
Furthermore, Airpeak will support the creativity of video creators to the fullest extent possible, while also aiming to contribute to the further development of the entertainment industry.
Airpeak will also promote this project to enable drone-use with the highest level of safety and reliability in the environments where this has been difficult in the past.
Moreover, Sony commits to providing more updates about the drone project and also get more feedback from drone users. Airpeak is expected to launch sometime in Spring of next year.
