Sony FX9 V-Mount Battery Plate by CoreSWX

Hot-swappable power for the Sony FX9!

CoreSWX has been making innovative V-mount and Gold-mount batteries for quite some time. And now, the North American outfit is releasing the much-awaited V-mount/Gold-mount adapter for the Sony FX9.

Officially named CXV-FX9, the battery adapter mounts directly to the back of the Sony PXW-FX9. Thus serving as an alternative power option to the Sony XDCA-FX9 extension unit. Which, in itself also provides a 16bit Raw output (but the particulars of which are yet to be released by Sony).

Available in V-mount and Gold-mount

The CoreSWX CXV-FX9 comes in both V-mount and Gold-mount options both priced at $499 USD. The unit is constructed out of milled aluminium and slots into the battery slot of the Sony FX9. Also, the battery adapter provides extra security by attaching into the top of the camera (with included screw hardware). This way, it provides a secure platform for mounting V-mount/Gold-mount batteries directly onto the FX9 camera.

One of the unique features of the CoreSWX CXV-FX9 is that it allows camera operators to simultaneously use a standard Sony BP-U battery at the same time.

Use Sony BP-U Battery Simultaneously

The actual CXV-FX9 adapter attaches inside of the battery cavity on the camera, allowing FX9 camera operators to hot-swap batteries. Once the V-mount or Gold-mount battery attached to the adapter runs out of power, the adapter will automatically pull power from the BP-U30.

Then, users will see the battery indication on the viewfinder change. To make it easier to take the CXV-FX9 plate on-and-off, M4-8mm thumbscrews can be purchased separately.

Unlike some other battery adapters on the market currently for the FX9, which cannot be used simultaneously with BPU batteries, the CoreSWX adapter actually does.

The adapter also features a 19.5v DC output with a visual low battery warning LED and a 4-pin XLR DC input for hot-swapping between external and on-board power.

Also, it’s equipped with 2 x D-Tap outputs to power additional accessories and three 1/4-20 threads on the top to attach accessories. A USB firmware update port on the rear ensures future compatibility with camera firmware updates.
