The budget anamorphic lens is shipping to the masses in April

Sirui 50mm f1.8 anamorphic lens 1.33x front

The highly anticipated Sirui 50mm f1.8 budget anamorphic lens designed for APS-C sensors is shipping to dealers in April at $699 USD.

Undoubtedly, most of you have already seen the test videos and reviews of this lens. It was announced back at IBC 2019 and subsequently completed a very successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo raising over $1.2 million dollars.

Huge Success on IndieGoGo!

For the past few weeks Sirui has been shipping lenses to their Indiegogo backers. And despite the setback caused by the Coronavirus outbreak, it looks like they are back on track fulfilling the pre-orders.

So, come April 2020, and once Indiegogo pre-orders have been shipped, the Sirui 50mm f1.8 Anamorphic 1.33x lens will be shipping to authorised dealers. And, it will retail for $699 USD, which is a bargain considering what the lens can do.

Compared to a normal 50mm lens on a crop sensor, the 50mm f/1.8 anamorphic lens produces a lovely cinematic 2.4:1 widescreen video. Because of its design, it provides a 33% increase of the horizontal field of view to achieve a FOV equivalent to an APS-C 37.5mm lens.

Serious Build Quality

The lens build quality is impressive! Outside, the lens is crafted from Aircraft Aluminium. And optically, it features high-quality German Manufactured Schott optical glass lens elements.

Additionally, despite its fast f/1.8 maximum aperture, this Sirui Anamorphic lens is compact and robust. Yet, light enough to carry around when paired with a Sony a6500 or similar mirrorless camera.

Designed for 16:9 APS-C Sensors

Designed for 16:9 sensor capture, ie for normal APS-C cameras without a dedicated 4:3 anamorphic sensor crop, and thanks to the 1.33x squeeze factor, the 50mm f1.8 1.33x anamorphic lens will widen the field of view to produce a smooth Cinematic 2.4:1 widescreen video in a normal 16:9 capture setting.

Built with a precision optical structure and multi-layer Nano coatings, the Sirui Anamorphic lens produces lovely horizontal blue streaks, normally associated with the Anamorphic look of older, Hollywood film lenses.
