Lens specialists MTF Services are now offering the Sirui 35mm and 50mm 1.33x Anamorphic lenses converted to RF mount. This is particularly terrific news for current and future RED Komodo and Canon C70 users looking to get that sought-after classic Hollywood cinematic look.
Budget Anamorphic Lens for RED Komodo
In addition, MTF Services are also offering an RF mount conversion for the popular Fujinon MK 18-55mm and 50-135mm cine zooms. Furthermore, MTF Services also recently announced their L-mount conversion for the same Sirui 1.33x anamorphic primes for cameras like the Lumix S5, S1H and Sigma fp.
Sirui 1.33x Anamorphic Lenses Canon RF mount
The Sirui 1.33x anamorphic lenses are quite affordable and available in 35mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.8 variants. They are traditionally offered in Sony E mount and Micro Four Thirds mounts.
And even though they don’t cover full-frame sensors, compatible full-frame cameras that have a 4K S35 crop mode (such as the Lumix S5) or a native S35 sensor like the RED Komodo or EOS C70 can take full advantage of what they offer.
Compact, Budget Anamorphic Lenses for RED Komodo, EOS R5 and C70
Available now, the custom-converted lenses are based on the Micro Four Thirds versions. And the good news is that each lens retains its compact dimensions, allowing for easy handheld or gimbal operation.
However, it is important to know that the conversion needs to be performed by MTF Services as it does requires precise mechanical modification of the lens to allow fitting of the new RF mount.
Needless to say that these lenses do not fully cover the full-frame sensor of the Canon EOS R5, however there is a workaround. As long as you are OK with some vignetting and you do an approximate 1.35x crop of the image in post, you can get away with it.
Covers the full 6K sensor of RED Komodo
The S35 RED Komodo sensor is covered by the image circle of both the Sirui 35mm and 50mm anamorphic lenses converted by MTF Services.
Likewise, the new Canon C70 is fully covered and can create 4K 2.4:1 anamorphic images with the MTF Services converted Sirui lenses. Even the Canon EOS R in 4K video mode is also fully covered (since it crops from the full-frame sensor).
Pricing and Availability
The RF-mount-converted Sirui 50mm f1.8 is priced at £499 (ex. VAT) for the base lens.
