Sigma just announced the highly anticipated SIGMA 105mm f2.8 DG DN Macro Art lens for Sony (and Panasonic) full-frame mirrorless cameras. This new lens marks the first Macro Prime lens by Sigma designed exclusively for full-frame mirrorless cameras.
Proudly carrying the “DG DN” mirrorless design indication, the new 105mm offers 1:1 magnification at a 5.5-inch focus distance with internal focusing.
The new lens will be available in late October in Sony E and L mounts respectively and cost $799 USD.
Sigma Art Macro Comes to Sony/Panasonic Full-Frame
For this mirrorless version, Sigma says they have a completely redesigned optical formula for exceptional focal plane sharpness with minimal aberration. Furthermore, the new optical design incorporates 17 elements arranged in 12 groups with one SLD element.
Moreover, the lens features excellent peripheral brightness for pleasing bokeh, complemented by 9 rounded aperture blades.
Also, it should be noted that the L-Mount version is compatible with the 1.4x SIGMA Teleconverter TC-1411 and also the 2x TC-2011 tele, increasing the maximum magnification to 1.4:1 and 2:1, respectively.
“In order to capture the minute details of small subjects, macro lenses must meet an extremely high standard of optical precision, and the new SIGMA 105mm f2.8 DG DN Macro Art lens truly delivers,” says Mark Amir-Hamzeh, President of Sigma Corporation of America.
“Whether you are shooting images of flowers, insects or just interesting objects around the house, the sharpness, bokeh quality and practical functionality of this lens will exceed the expectations of professionals and hobbyists alike.”

And the three-zone focus limiter switch allows for even swifter response when focusing exclusively in either the macro or more distant range.
Dust and Splash-Proof Design
When it comes to protection from the elements, worry not. The new Sigma macro for Sony full-frame is dust and splash-proof. In addition, it also benefits from an aluminium and TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) construction, a brass bayonet mount, plus well-damped switches and rings demonstrate the level of build quality that the Art name represents.
De-Clicked Iris Ring
For those looking to capture some sweet macro video, rest assured this is even easier thanks to the smooth aperture ring. The aperture ring on the 105mm Macro can be clicked or de-clicked by flick of a switch.
Additionally, the lens also includes an Aperture Ring Lock Switch function and a programmable AFL button on the lens barrel. As with the Sigma 85mm f1.4 photographers get the benefit of full integration with the Sony camera’s face and eye-detection autofocus.
