Earlier today, RED boss Jarred Land shared on his facebook profile some RED Komodo footage. In the short clip below, you can see Brad Pitt announce a classic Hollywood film for the AFI Movie Club.
Jarred Land confirmed in the comments section below the clip on his FB profile, that this was indeed shot on the upcoming RED Komodo 6K camera.
See the RED Komodo footage on Youtube below:
I am be wrong, but from my recollection, this has got to be the first, single clip, RED Komodo footage released (that is not mixed with other RED cameras).
Official RED Komodo Footage
I think this footage from the RED Komodo looks great! In general, dynamic range is always hard to measure and judge, but judging from this clip above, it looks pretty decent.
You can follow the RED Komodo discussion here on the reduser forum, where dynamic range on the Komodo has been indicated to be similar to that of the RED Helium. Which in itself is a great camera.
Super Bowl Commercial shot on RED Komodo
Around the Super Bowl, Michael Bay directed a commercial, which was shot on multiple RED cameras, including the Komodo. However, due to the fast pace of the advert, it is difficult to make out the Komodo shots.
You can see the Super Bowl ad shot on the RED Komodo (and other RED cameras) below:
You can see the clip shot on RED Komodo as posted on Jarred Land’s FB profile:
According to the discussion on reduser, given the current global disruption in supply chain and manufacturing, there is a possibility the Komodo release may be impacted.
Of course, things are quite unpredictable at this stage, however Jarred did reassure the community they are doing their best and working hard to deliver soon.
RED Komodo Price and Shipping Date?
The estimated/anticipated pricing for RED Komodo (for the brain, without accessories) is as follows (as of now):
- RED Komodo 6K with Hydrogen discount – around $5K
- RED Komodo 6K (regular price, without discount) – around $6K
- RED Komodo 6K Stormtrooper (special edition) – around $7K
Of course, as always, especially with RED – it can all change without notice. We hope not, as these prices are very attractive and affordable for a RED camera.
And we hope to see RED officially release the Komodo in May/June, pending any delays.
And last, are you considering purchasing a RED Komodo? Will this be your first RED camera or adding to your RED arsenal? Do let us know in the comments below.
