Tipping the scales at just 355g the new LUMIX S 85mm f1.8 is quite nimble and compact. However, despite its compact nature, it sports a rugged dust, splash, and freeze resistant design making it more dependable when used in harsh conditions even at 10 degrees below zero (Celsius).

Advanced Optical Formula to Supress Chroma Artefacts
Panasonic has implemented an advanced optical formula in the new Lumix S 85mm f1.8 with 9 elements arranged in 8 groups. In addition, the optical design incorporates not one, but two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements to effectively suppresses both axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration of magnification.
Furthermore, Panasonic also says this new lens has been designed to produce smooth defocus gradation from the focus peak to the adjacent area of the image as well as pleasing, and organic round bokeh without vignetting.
Moreover, the new lens employs a focusing mechanism that minimises focus breathing to a minimum, which can often be quite a jarring side-effect when shooting video.
Lumix 70-300mm Telephoto Zoom in the works
In addition to the upcoming four f1.8 primes, Panasonic is also working on a Lumix 70-300mm telephoto zoom, which will be a terrific addition to the growing Panasonic L-mount full frame lens line-up.
Panasonic also goes on to say in their press release, that the company alongside their partners Leica and Sigma in the L-Mount Alliance are committed to the development of more L-Mount lenses to fulfil the needs of photographers and video creators using their full-frame mirrorless cameras.
