Good news for Olympus fans – OM-D E-M1X and E-M1 Mark III will get ProRes RAW thanks to the Atomos Ninja V HDR recorder. And that’s a bit of a relief after the tumultuous year Olympus has had.
Atomos announced an upcoming firmware update, which will enable ProRes RAW recording onto the Atomos Ninja V from the two mirrorless cameras. Not really a move anyone was expecting, but one that is surely going to bring smiles to many videographers using Olympus.
Olympus Gets on the ProRes RAW Train
Jeromy Young, Atomos CEO, said: “We’re thrilled to work with Olympus and their stunning mirrorless cameras to bring the power of Apple’s ProRes RAW to OM-D users. We can’t wait to see the creativity that results from this partnership”.

Edit with the Speed of ProRes and Flexibility of RAW
Furthermore, Olympus is currently the eighth brand to support the ProRes RAW format, which has ambitions to become an industry standard raw format.
For those not yet familiar, ProRes RAW combines the visual and workflow benefits of RAW video with the incredible real-time performance of ProRes. Both ProRes RAW, and the higher bandwidth, less compressed ProRes RAW HQ are supported.
In addition, ProRes RAW is fully supported in Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Premiere Pro along with ASSIMILATE SCRATCH, Colorfront, FilmLight Baselight and Edius.
The new firmware update is scheduled for release towards the end of the year.
