Olympus launches long-awaited, super-expensive M.Zuiko 150-400mm 1.25x IS PRO zoom lens for wildlife photography. Olympus may soon be in the history books as a lens and camera maker, however their latest pro zoom is deserved of a farewell masterpiece.
Built-in 1.25x TeleConverter
Build for Micro Four Thirds cameras, the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm f4.5 super-telephoto comes with a built-in 1.25x teleconverter and covers a wide focal length of 300-1,000mm equivalent.
Designed for wildlife and sports photographers, when combined with the optional M.Zuiko Digital 2x Teleconverter MC-20 this range is extended to the slightly insane 2,000mm. The MC-14 (1.4x) teleconverter is also supported.
“No expense spared” Optical Design
Furthermore, the lens features a close focus distance of just 1.3 meters across the entire zoom range, while Olympus designers and engineers managed to fit a whopping 28 elements in 18 groups inside the lens. In addition, the optical design includes a new large-diameter Extra-low Dispersion Aspherical element and four Super Extra-low Dispersion lenses.
In essence, this results in a massive reduction of flares and color bleeding across the entire zoom range, while ensuring edge-to-edge image sharpness. The Olympus Z Coating Nano technology provides sharp and vivid images even in tough, backlit scenarios.
5-axis sync Image Stabilization
According to Olympus even at longer focal lengths, their new 150-400mm f4.5 IS PRO is capable of incredible stabilization. And they even call it the world’s strongest image stabilization of 8 EV steps.
Furthermore, you can even use the MC-20 teleconverter, and you can still take advantage of the IS function. This makes it possible for photographers to capture sharp high-resolution images in wildlife and outdoor sports photography.
Compact and Ready for Any Weather Conditions
The lens construction includes magnesium alloy used for the lens barrel and a lightweight carbon fiber lens hood for superior balance. Furthermore, the lens is quite compact at just 314 mm and of 1,875 g, making quite portable and easy to handle.
And when paired with the Olympus OM-D E-M1X and its exceptional dust-proof, splash-proof, and freeze-proof properties enables you to shoot safely in harsh weather conditions such as rain and snow.
Moreover, the heat-resistant coating helps to efficiently reflect the infrared rays of sunlight, keeping temperatures inside the lens from rising even in bright and sunny outdoor conditions. The fluorine coating on the front elements which provides a smooth and scratch resistant surface and makes the lens easy to maintain.
