Nikon has announced two new compact Macro lenses – the NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S and NIKKOR Z MC 50mm f/2.8. These two lenses add to the already fast growing NIKKOR Z lens lineup for Nikon’s Z series mirrorless cameras.
In addition, the new NIKKOR Z MC 105mm and the compact NIKKOR Z MC 50mm are the first NIKKOR Z lenses to feature a 1:1 reproduction ratio. This means photographers can get even closer to their subjects and fill the frame with edge-to-edge sharpness and stunning details.
Moreover, these new lenses are perfect for photographing tiny wildlife, wedding details, food and jewellery in addition to striking portraits and much more.
Both lenses are designed for the latest Nikon Z mount, which features a large diameter and short flange focal distance for world class optical performance and impressive light gathering abilities.
In addition, both lenses have been designed to deliver corner-to-corner sharp images and suppress chromatic aberrations and color bleeding across the focusing range.

NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S
The MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S is a high-quality S-line macro lens created to fit a wide range of purposes. Solid sharpness and impressive bokeh are one of the main characteristics of this lens. In addition, the lens also features 1:1 reproduction ratio and a fast f/2.8 maximum aperture, thus blending two lenses in one. One for Macro photography, and the “other” for portraits.
At its heart, the NIKKOR Z MC 105mm is a macro lens that features a larger rear aspherical lens element to reduce field curvature from infinity to close-up.
Moreover, the lens has a really short minimum focusing distance of only 0.96 feet (0.29m). allowing it to capture sharp images with a blurred background thus adding scale when photographing small details.
Multi-Focus STM AF
Needless to say, the lens’ Multi-Focus STM system affords consistently smooth, silent and accurate focus due to the customized autofocus algorithm, which accounts for minute distance changes that alter the effective aperture.
Also, the 105mm MC also includes a limiter switch to reduce the working range to a maximum of 1.6 feet (0.5m), in order to acquire focus efficiently and quickly. Furthermore, with a near-silent AF performance, the lens allows users to capture high-quality still images and videos without disturbing small creatures in the field.
The lens is rated at 4.52 stops of Vibration Reduction (Image Stabilization), which makes it easy to shoot handheld. And speaking of stabilization, the lens works well in tandem with the in-body IS feature in the full-frame Z series mirrorless cameras, providing 5-axis image stabilization.
Nano Crystal and ARNEO Coatings
Another benefit of being an S-line lens is the inclusion of NANO Crystal and ARNEO Coatings. These coatings limit flare and ghosting effects, even with backlighting.
And last, but certainly not least, the 105mm MC lens comes with a manual focus ring, lens function shortcut button, control ring and lens info panel with robust weather sealing for more reliable performance in tough environments.
NIKKOR Z MC 50mm f/2.8
It may be a small and lightweight micro lens, but the Nikkor Z MC 50mm f2.8 packs a punch. This lens has been designed for on-the-go street snapshots and capturing small details with stunning clarity.
Tipping the scales at just 9.2 oz, this portable lens is perfect for all around photography scenarios and daily shooting.
Furthermore, the lens has a 0.53 ft (0.16m) minimum focusing distance, while the large f/2.8 aperture brings stunning bokeh.
Stepping Motors with focus limiter
Moreover, the lens is also equipped with stepping motors (STM) and a focus limiter switch for fast and reliable autofocus in both stills and video.
The lens also benefits from a modern design with a variety of intuitive controls, including a lens barrel that integrates helpful visual indicators for focus distance and reproduction ratio.
The focus limiter switch can limit the AF search range for effortless capture, while the control ring can be assigned to a variety of functions.
And when it comes to the optical design, the MC 50mm f2.8 benefits from the inclusion of a fluorine coated front element to resist dirt and smudges, as well as a dust and drip resistant build for rugged reliability.
