ZY Optics just announced a new Leica M mount version of their Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 lens with silent aperture control.

Furthermore, the lens is specially redesigned to seamlessly integrate with Leica M camera systems and supports rangefinder coupling for focus assistance. In addition, the lens is also compatible with third party Autofocus Adapters for Nikon Z or Sony FE cameras.

“Bokeh-tastic” Performance

Thanks to it’s insanely wide f/0.95 maximum aperture, the Speedmaster just happens to be one of the fastest lenses for the Leica M system currently on the market. The creamy shallow of field gives off a dreamy ambience, with the main character perfectly separated from the background.

Furthermore, thanks to its 9 round bladed aperture, the Mitakon Speedmaster produces soft and organic bokeh, which will be appreciated by photographers.

Outstanding Image Quality

Compared to the Nikon Z, Canon RF, and Sony FE version, the Leica M Speedmaster packs a new optical formula. And it includes 11 elements arranged in 8 groups for better sharpness even at wide open aperture. Furthermore, CA is greatly suppressed thanks to the addition of extra-low dispersion elements.

The colour rendered is also carefully calibrated to manifest a greater contrast on Leica cameras. Unlike other f/0.95 lenses where the sharpness is only optimized at certain distances, the new Mitakon 50mm has an outstanding sharpness at both portrait distances as well as infinity, making it one of the most versatile 50mm lenses.

Autofocus Support with Third Party Adapters

Despite its native manual focus design, the Mitakon Speedmaster also supports Autofocus with certain 3rd party adapters. This so-called hybrid focusing performance, also available for the Nikon Z and Sony E mount versions, is now also available in Leica M mount.

Users can now take advantage of the short-flange distance of Leica M mount and experience a new focus performance with these AF adapters. Both the Megadap MTZ11 and Techart TZM-01, LM-EA7 are supported.

These adapters can support AF-S, AF-C, AF-F as well as Face/Eye detection with IBIS (as long as the camera has one).

The demo video below shows AF performance with Megadap and Techart adapters from the 2:38 to 3:27 mark:

Support for Rangefinder Coupling Focusing System

One special feature about Leica cameras is their unique Rangefinder Coupling system.
The new Speedmaster offers full support for the Leica rangefinder system.

This allows it to achieve a more accurate, convenient, and quicker focusing performance through the camera’s viewfinder.
