LUMIX S1H, S1, S1R, S5 and Panasonic BGH1 firmware updates coming

S1H to become 1st full-frame mirrorless to get Blackmagic RAW support to Video Assist 12G

Panasonic announced plans for some major firmware updates for their full-frame Lumix S1H, S1, S1R, S5 and the BGH1 box-style camera.

For some of these cameras such as the more affordable Lumix S1 (firmware v2.0) the upcoming firmware updates will bring significant enhancements. Furthermore, these include Apple ProRes RAW support *when paired with the Atomos Ninja V

Also, the Panasonic S1 gets Dual Native ISO functionality and Time Code support. enhance their functions, performance and usability. 

In addition, the upcoming firmware update v2.4 scheduled for release at the end of March, will bring 5.9K Blackmagic RAW recording from the S1H to the Video Assist 12G external monitor/recorder. This update will make the Lumix S1H – the first full-frame mirrorless camera to get access to Blackmagic RAW.

LUMIX S1 Firmware v2.0 Update Details:

    • Super 35mm Anamorphic 3.5K (3536 x 2656) 50p/29.97p/25p/23.98p
  • 6K (5952 x 3968) / 5.9K (5888 x 3312) / 5.4K (5376 x 3584) video recording mode in MOV format:
    • 6K/24p, 4:2:0 10bit LongGOP, 200Mbps, LPCM 
    • 5.9K/30p/25p/24p, 4:2:0 10bit LongGOP, 200Mbps, LPCM 
    • 5.4K/30p/25p, 4:2:0 10bit LongGOP, 200Mbps, LPCM 
  • Time Code support

Features and functions available without the Upgrade Software Key DMW-SFU2 include:

    • Added Dual Native ISO Setting
    • Users can choose to add or not to add camera orientation information in [Vertical Position Info (Video)] menu to prevent unintended image rotation in playback.
    • Power Save Mode – can be selectable while the camera is powered with an AC adaptor 

LUMIX S1R Firmware v1.8 and S5 firmware v2.2 Details:

    • Choose to set camera orientation info – Vertical Position Info (Video) menu to prevent unintended image rotation in playback.
    • Power Save Mode – can be selectable while the camera is powered with an AC adaptor (sold separately)

    • Luminance Spot Meter, Zebra Pattern can be used during RAW output.
  • LUT exclusively designed for RAW video recorded on NINJA V.

Lumix Tether for Multicam v1.1 Update – New Features:

  • Settings and controls over the BGH1 during IP streaming are available.
  • Rec.Quality options corresponding to RAW video data output will be displayed when [Menu]>[Video]>[Image Format]>[HDMI RAW Data Output] is turned ON.
  • Start/Stop recording on the external device with the BGH1 during HDMI/SDI output.
  • When [HDMI Recording Control] and/or [SDI Recording Control] is/are ON, Rec button is available even if the SD Card is not inserted.
    • The connection method, either HDMI or SDI, is also displayed.

  • Lumix S1H firmware v2.4 – available to download on March 31, 2021
  • Panasonic S1 firmware update v2.0 – will be released on April 6, 2021
  • Lumix S1R firmware update v1.8 – should also be out on April 6, 2021
  • Lumix S5 firmware update v2.2 – April 6, 2021
  • Panasonic BGH1 firmware v1.8 update – scheduled for release on March 24
  • LUMIX Tether for Multi-cam v1.1 update – download on March 24
