Lumix G100 Budget Vlogging Camera Announced

Flip screen and stabilized 4K video for under $700

Panasonic has just announced their LUMIX G100 budget vlogging camera. Specifically designed for vloggers and content creators, the G100 benefits from a flip-out touchscreen, lightweight and compact body, and 4K video capture.

With its 20.3MP Micro Four Thirds MOS sensor without low pass filter offering stellar image quality, the Lumix G100 seeks to discourage you from using a smartphone as a camera replacement. Moreover, the Lumix G100 will probably fair much better than your smartphone in low-light situations thanks to its larger sensor and high ISO of up to 25,600.

In addition, the larger MFT sensor also helps to create beautifully blurred backgrounds for a professional look, while the Panasonic Venus engine assures high-speed, high-performance image processing.

5-Axis Hybrid Image Stabilizer

Considering that this camera is meant to be used mainly as a vlogging devices, some form of internal stabilization is a must. And the G100 comes equipped with a 5-axis hybrid image stabiliser providing shake compensation under a wide-range of situations. 

Furthermore, vloggers can also take advantage of the Frame Marker feature, which keeps check of your composition in various popular social-media optimised aspect ratios. In addition, Panasonic has included a REC Frame Indicator to  help you see that the camera is recording.

Panasonic has also included some impressive audio features in the tiny G100. The camera features spatial audio recording thanks to an integrated OZO Audio by Nokia sound system. According to Panasonic, their Lumix G100 is the first mirrorless camera in the world to offer such an advanced feature.

Basically, the system features 3 internal microphones used to record clear and rich sound with accuracy and precision. Moreover, the Lumix G100 also tracks the voice of a detected person, automatically switching to the most appropriate sound mode for the situation. 

V-Log L and 4K Video Features

The G100 has an intuitive Video Selfie Mode for a quick and stress-free vlogging setup. When enabled, it starts as soon as you turn the monitor forward without the need to make adjustments.

When it comes to 4K video capture, the Lumix G100 supports UHD up to 30fps and Full HD up to 60fps. Moreover, advanced users can take advantage of the full dynamic range of the camear by using V-Log L. Then in post-production they can apply a LUT of their choice to transform their footage into a normalised image.

Special video effects such as slow-motion are available for quick access from on the mode dial. Time lapse and stop motion animation features are also available with interval shooting and image composition processing inside the camera.

Compact and Lightweight; Designed for Portability

The new G100 tips the scale at just 412g with its 12-32mm kit lens, making it very easy to carry around. 

A new tripod grip (DMW-SHGR1) can be added to make it even easier to hold the camera while recording and can also be used as a compact tripod. The tripod connects to the camera via USB and allows for start/stop recording and shutter release. 

The G100 also supports USB charging from powerbanks.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Wireless Connectivity

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 2.4GHz (IEEE802.11b/g/n) connectivity come standard to allow you to quickly share your photos on popular social media networks.

The camera even has a dedicated upload button makes it quick and easy to transfer videos and photos to your smartphone ready for sharing on your favorite social networks via the free LUMIX Sync app for iOS and Android. 

Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth 4.2) allows your smartphone and camera to be constantly connected with minimum power consumption. 

In line with current times, the Lumix G100 can even be used as a webcam when paired with a HDMI video capture device. 

Pricing and Availability

The Panasonic LUMIX G100 is likely to ship towards the end of July for £589.99 for body only, £679.99 for 12-32mm lens kit, or £719.99 for 12-32mm lens and tripod grip kit in the UK.

And if you are in the UK and you buy the Lumix G100 before 31st August, you get the tripod for free. 

US pricing is $699 for kit with 12-32mm lens, and $749 in a kit with the SHGR1 smart tripod.
