Insta360 is back with a new and updated ONE X2 360 action camera, now with a bigger touchscreen display, and stabilized 5.7K video.

The addition of a larger display with touchscreen functionality (and one that is in colour) is a huge step up from the ONE X.

Nonetheless, the ONE X was cool, but its display was super basic, akin to an 80s game console. It was simple and did show you what mode you were in, resolution and frame rate, but it had no preview.

Preview Touchscreen Display in Full Colour

Now, however the new ONE X2 not only comes with a 40% larger display that is also a touchscreen, but it is one that gives you a live-preview in full colour.

Super-Steady 5.7K/30fps 360 Video

And while not much has changed in the frame rates and resolutions department (the ONE X2 still maxes out at 5.7K/30fps), the new design appears to make the camera a big more “beefier”, appearing less slippery and fragile.

On the contrary, the ONE X was thinner, with more smooth curved edges making it prone to drops unless you had a case around it.

Better FlowState Image Stabilization

Insta360 claims they’ve improved the FlowState image stabilization on the ONE X2, which is good news, however the stabilization in the ONE X is no slouch either, so it would be interesting to see independent comparisons once the new camera ships.

The two main modes the camera supports are 360 Mode and Steady Cam. The latter uses a single camera (at 2560 x 1440 maximum resolution at 50fps or 30fps) to give you some super-steady action camera-like wide-angle footage.

4 x Microphones 360 Degree Audio

Further improvements for the ONE X2 come in the audio department. The new camera uses 4 x mics to locate and amplify your voice regardless of how you hold the camera. Also, a new smart wind-reduction algorithm helps supress unwanted noise in challenging conditions.

Bigger Battery with 1.5x “more juice” than ONE X

The new Insta360 ONE X2 comes equipped with a new high-performance 1630mAh re-chargeable battery that is 55% bigger capacity compared to the previous model.

Another neat feature is the GPS-enabled stats overlay, which give you states like speed, altitude and more in a HUD display when you’re mountain biking for example.

Furthermore, the ONE X2 is IPX8 rated, giving it waterproof abilities straight out of the box up to 10 meters. And this can be expanded to 45m with the optional Dive Case.

Additionally, Insta360 has included AquaVision profile, which helps you get more natural looking colours from your underwater images.

Apple Watch and AirPods Integration

One of the more neat features of the ONE X2 is its integration with the Apple Watch app, which allow you to control the camera plus record GPS data and overlay key stats like speed and distance on your shot. Furthermore, you can use AirPods to record audio wirelessly or control your shot with voice control.

And for those working from home, you can spice-up your Zoom meetings with the new ONE X2, which supports the popular conferencing app (among others) natively.

Deep Track 2.0 ensures improved subject recognition that can track people, animals and other moving objects, while keeping them in the centre of the frame.
