This is fantastic news for those, who already own either of the two MK series cine zooms in either Micro Four Thirds or Sony E mount. The Fujinon MK series compact cine zooms are very popular among documentary shooters, so it’s really nice to see them in RF mount given the growing adoption of the new Canon mirrorless mount.
Furthermore, once converted the lenses handle perfectly with either camera as they are of perfect size and weight for handheld work.
Fujinon Cine Zoom for RED Komodo and EOS C70
Nevertheless, RED Komodo owners looking for a quality standard cine zoom now have an excellent option. The Fujinon cine zooms are known for their stellar image quality, smooth bokeh, and parfocal design with virtually no lens breathing.
What is the coverage of the Fujinon MK 18-55mm RF mount on RED Komodo 6K 17:9?
The MTF services converted Fujinon MK cine lenses fully covers the Super35 sensor area in 16×9 on both the RED Komodo and Canon C70.
Additionally, the Fujinon MK 50-135mm T2.9 also fully covers the wider 17:9 (open gate) mode of the RED Komodo at all focal lengths and T stops.
However, it should be noted that the MK 18-55mm covers the Komodo 17:9 mode at wider apertures, but exhibits some corner vignetting from 18mm to 20mm when stopped down. From 21mm up it fully covers the sensor area.
MK Cine Zoom RF Mount Conversion – Installation
Moreover, MTF Services has worked closely with Fujinon to ensure compatibility and guarantee the quality of the conversion.
The three part conversion kit can be purchased from the MTF services web store, however it should be installed by an authorised engineer. Furthermore, the conversion is fully reversible, although frequent exchanging of mounts by the end user is not recommended.
Another cool feature of this conversion, is that the lens still retains the standard back focus adjustment as is the use of macro mode.
What’s included in the RF conversion kit?
The MTF Services RF conversion kit consists of:
- Replacement collar
- MTF stainless steel RF mount
- Light baffle
- Fixing screws
