ARRI has released ALEXA Mini LF SUP 7.0 firmware update to the public adding some long-awaited Super 35 recording formats to the camera.
Last month, ARRI released a beta version of the SUP 7.0 update noting that it shouldn’t be used on actual productions just yet, but as of now you can use it on a shoot.
The new “production” version of SUP 7.0 brings some heavily requested recording Super 35 recording modes to the Mini LF.
More frame rates, and Super 35 modes come to the Alexa Mini LF
Furthermore, the additional recording formats makes the ALEXA Mini LF more flexible than ever giving you basically two cine cameras into one. A full-frame, large format, and an “Alexa Mini, Super 35” at the same time.
In addition, three of the four Super 35 recording formats offer higher frame rates than the corresponding ones in the original S35 ARRI ALEXA Mini.
Some of the major new features in SUP 7.0 include 3.4K mode in 3:2, in addition to a 3.2K 16×9 format, which is perfect for those using Super 35 cine lenses on the camera.
At the same time, ARRI also expand the cameras’ features for the hugely popular large format. Two new large format recording formats deliver the large format look with a significantly reduced data rate (HD or 4K UHD recording).
ARRI ALEXA Mini LF SUP 7.0 Beta Details:
New Super 35 recording formats:
- 3.4K S35 3:2 – 3.4K (3424 x 2202) up to 60fps
- 3.2K S35 16:9 – 3.2K (3200 x 1800) up to 75fps
- 2.8K S35 4:3 – 2.8K Anamorphic (2880 x 2160) up to 75fps
- 2.8K S35 16:9 – HD
Added the following large format recording formats:

Unfortunately, the new S35 recording formats, like their equivalents in the ALEXA Mini, are not Netflix 4K approved.
